1 Clock Hour | Domain G: Meeting or Event Design 

Creating warm and welcoming experiences for all attendees at events is very important. This open and frank conversation about gender diversity and inclusion is led by two seasoned event planner professionals and shares the personal experiences of Michelle Emson, an openly “out” transgender woman and LCGTI advocate and educator. Thinking we are being inclusive is not the same as knowing that we have specifically and strategically designed our events to be welcoming and warm to all.

Learning Objectives

  • Awareness of gender terminology .
  • In order to get an understanding of the unique challenges faced by attendees who are trans or non-binary at events, participants will be hearing first-hand accounts of how it feels to attend events which are not inclusive.
  • Practical advice on how event professionals can create a more inclusive environment through thoughtful and proactive planning around site selection, registration questions, washrooms, and inclusive language.
