Surviving & Thriving in a World of Mental Health Misunderstanding | February 3rd, 2025 | 11 am - 12 pm Central | Domain A: Strategic Planning
This session is equal parts education and advocacy, speaking from first hand experience on the ever important topic of mental health. Participants will hear Eli Gorin's journey through the past decade of not just surviving, but eventually thriving, with major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety - two diagnoses that for years have been very misunderstood and rarely spoken about in public. It will bring to light an everyday perspective of living with mental health conditions from the speaker's first hand accounts, educating the audience on what mental health issues are really like, while at the same time hopefully showing those living with similar conditions that there are others out there willing to speak and there is nothing to fear.
Learner Objectives:
1. Develop a better understanding of what conditions like depression and anxiety are from someone surviving and thriving with them;
2. Learn to better communicate with people who live with a mental health condition and understand how best to support them
3. Help break the stigma of wild assumptions people have regarding mental health issues.
