C10 - Women: I'm Not Intimidating; They're Intimidated: Overcoming Gender Stereotypes in the Workplace

Women in the workplace often face the stereotype of being "intimidating" when they display traits such as assertiveness and confidence. This stereotype can be damaging to women's careers and contribute to a hostile work environment. In this session, we will explore how to overcome this stereotype and create a workplace culture that values diverse leadership styles.Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how misogyny, misogynoir, and stereotypes impact the industry, as well as concrete strategies for creating a more equitable workplace culture.

  • Recognize and address biases in the workplace, leading to a more inclusive and welcoming workplace culture.
  • Recognize the impact of misogyny, misogynoir and stereotypes on individuals and the hospitality, events and tourism industry.
  • Apply practical strategies and actionable steps for promoting equity and fairness in the industry, including advocating for policy changes and implementing training programs for staff.
  • Ally yourself with, and advocate for, individuals who face discrimination based on gender, race or other marginalized identities.
