1 Clock Hour | Domain A: Strategic Planning

This panel will discuss the need for people to belong to an industry that is recognised by the government, as well as the need for the government to see the the value of events to the economy. In this panel, Martin leads a discussion around the his disappointment in the response of the UK government to the current crisis amongst the industry and highlights countries such as Denmark and Germany who have set aside funds for the industry to support meeting and event professionals. The events industry in the UK is on the front line with their venues being turned into hospitals and is acting as a nimble and agile partner to the NHS in helping set up facilities at a rapid pace. With the meeting and events industry doing so much to support the country, more discussions should be had on the business value of meetings and events.

  1. Participants will be able to discuss current impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the UK meeting and events industry.
  2. Participants will learn best practices from other countries about how to advocate to their local government for greater recognition of the industry.
  3. Participants will be able to articulate the business value of meeting and events and their economic impact.
