John Hammitt

Mr. Hammitt is currently in a co-leadership role at HITLAB, serving as Executive Director since early 2017. In that position he focuses on growth strategies, operating performance and quality assurance for meeting the needs of HITLAB’s sponsors.

John has four decades of global senior executive experience encompassing general management, new business development, innovation and venture strategy, new product research and business operations. The most recent twenty years have been focused on the healthcare industry.

He retired from Johnson & Johnson in 2008. Since then, he along with other operating partners, undertook business turnarounds in early-stage companies including radiological imaging, third-party healthcare payment administration and innovative security-video surveillance. The group also formed two startup healthcare companies. One developing a new therapy for autoimmune disease and the other developing new solutions for population health improvement.

Prior to becoming Executive Director, John also worked with HITLAB as a Senior Fellow, providing thought-leadership to its sponsors regarding innovation, selection, verification, use and integration of digital-health-technologies.

Throughout his career, Mr. Hammitt has served on several state-level and university blue-ribbon advisory boards dealing with issues of information technology for public sector policy as well as educational system improvement.

His undergraduate work was conducted in Chemical Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology and he also holds an M.B.A. with a dual concentration in Marketing and Finance from the University of Chicago.
