Well planned and executed events should be effective and essential to an organization’s success. They should also host and drive diverse and inclusive experiences for everyone. Yet often they either fail or result in less than desired outcomes for some participants who have special dietary needs and/or other disabilities. Association professionals must regard diversity and inclusion as a strategic and logistical approach in the planning process and should consider all facets of the event, including the food and beverage being served. In this session, we will learn how to create more inclusive food and beverage environments, manage for diversity and capitalize on the unique perspectives of a diverse participant base.

It’s a race against time to save your event from from…The Killer Manel! As absurd as it seems, the phenomenon of session panels populated only with men is an all-too-familiar reality for event and conference organizers. “Manels” are really a symptom of larger societal trends which, overall, result in underrepresentation of women, people of color, people of different physical capabilities and other groups in leadership roles. The session will highlight the importance of reflecting diverse viewpoints and perspectives – and demonstrate steps any meeting professional can take to ensure a proactive approach to creating a diverse and inclusive experience for all speakers.

In this session, we will share some common models, or approaches, event planners can use to develop budgets to support the AV and technology elements for their events. We will show examples of RFPs/RFQs and discuss when each may be appropriate. We will also discuss how the constant changes in venue service charges can and will affect your budget.
