This live, 12-hour broadcast featured education and activities from all over the world as the meeting industry came together to celebrate, commemorate and honor the millions of global events that impact the lives of billions of people every year.
Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) is an international day of advocacy showcasing the undeniable value that business meetings, trade shows, incentive travel, exhibitions, conferences and conventions bring to people, businesses and communities. This year’s theme is #MeetingsMatter and we relish this opportunity to celebrate the wonders the future holds for bringing people together in meaningful ways with thousands industry friends and colleagues.
The live broadcast ran from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. US Central Time (06:00 to 18:00 UTC -5), offering community members the opportunity to connect with other industry leaders from all over the world. The broadcast was FREE, but we asked everyone to consider donating US$10 toward supporting the efforts of the MPI Foundation, which has awarded more than US$5 million in grants, scholarships and research since 2009.
GMID: Virtual was the perfect event to rally together—because when we meet, we change the world.
About GMID
GMID began as Canadian National Meetings Industry Day, which was a 20+ year tradition in Canada created by the Canadian Chapters of MPI. It expanded to North American Meetings Industry Day in 2015 through the efforts of Meetings Mean Business. 2016 was the first global edition, continued to be led by Meetings Mean Business (which is now an arm of U.S. Travel). GMID is currently an initiative of Meetings Mean Business under U.S Travel; however, many industry associations, chapters and organizations host events in its celebration. MPI has hosted our annual 12-hour broadcast since 2018.

Leadership on the Run - Being an Authentic Leader in a Fast Paced World
Join author, public speaker and former Southlake Mayor, Laura Hill, as she helps us get motivated to look at the workplace (and your life) in a more positive, energized way. You have the tools already!
Key discussion points
1. The pace of life has become an excuse not a motivator. It has trained us not to plan long term but only aim for short term goals.
2. The human mind only multitasks as a defense when it is over challenged. Focusing on one issue at a time is ideal.
3. A leader must have a balanced life to perform well against major issues.
4. Zoom will not get you where you want to go.
